The 2025 Go Glendale Annual Commute Survey

Go Glendale issued their annual commute survey for 2025 to gather data on the ridership trends of residents and employees of our member sites. This survey allows us to better understand the habits associated with members’ commute decisions and helps us provide insight into advocating for more sustainable commute options in and around Glendale.

A key factor that we look for when conducting the survey is the Average Vehicle Ridership, or AVR. The AVR is calculated by taking the number of trips taken to or from a work or residential site and dividing it by the number of those trips taken alone in a private vehicle. In 2025, the AVR of our surveyed members was 1.87. We saw a slight decrease in the AVR of our surveyed members compared to the previous year, but is still well above the city-mandated AVR of 1.25. We hope to continue working towards improving the AVR through 2026 and influence members to try alternative modes of transportation outside the personal vehicle.

The 2025 Commute Survey is also helpful in breaking down the different transportation habits of employees and members commuting. The categories for this survey consisted of driving alone, bus, train, walking, biking, carpool/vanpool, rideshare, non-working day, and non-commuter (unemployed/retired or stayed at worksite). In the 2025 survey, we saw an increase in people opting to drive alone, rising from 45% in the 2024 survey to 52%. A factor that could have impacted this shift is the increase in the number of members switching from remote working to in-person as a result of return-to-office mandates. While the driving alone results are not trending in the direction we’d typically like to see, the increase in people shifting back to in-office roles gives us the opportunity to educate and inform members that are now commuting again. Another change in travel mode that we found when compared to the 2024 survey was an almost 8% increase in members using the bus. There were also increases in members choosing to walk, bike, and carpool, emphasizing a positive trend in people using more sustainable and environmentally friendly commute options.

As part of our survey, we also asked what other transportation modes members would be interested in trying. The highest percentages of respondents indicated that they are interested in trying the bus and train, with 33% interested in trying the bus and 32% interested in trying the train. This is mostly consistent with the results of the 2024 survey, with a 6% increase in members’ interest in trying the bus. We also saw an increase in members’ interest in commuting by walking, biking, and through carpool/vanpool options.

The results of the 2025 Commute Survey reveal that there are positive trends in Glendale’s transportation habits and members’ interest in trying more sustainable commute options that move away from the reliance of the personal vehicle. At Go Glendale, we value the opportunity to receive feedback and insight from our surveyed members. This allows us to better understand the employees and members that shape the community, and work towards our goal of promoting more sustainable and efficient means of traveling. As we move into 2026, we remain dedicated to improving access to the information and resources available to address mobility issues and foster change in the ways we think about commuting.

Together, we are driving change—one commute at a time.
